Carstensz: expedition under way

After over 49 hours of travel and barely 5 total hours of sleep, I’ve arrived on the Island of Papua to start my climb of Oceania’s highest peak, the Carstensz Pyramid. What they say about the logistics and difficulty reaching this mountain is all true. It’s going to be an epic adventure.

Tomorrow morning we take a single engine plane to the remote village of Sugapa where we will start our 6-day trek through the muddy jungle and rainforest just to reach base camp.

This will most likely be my last update for a while as we will be without connectivity. The sat phone has no data coverage and will barely get a signal due to the density of the jungle.
