Aconcagua Day 4: Rest Day at Plaza Argentina Base Camp

Good thing today was a rest day because the wind was blowing hard all night and didn’t get much sleep. After waking up we were served a great breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast in the dining tent.

After breakfast, we spent a couple of hours organizing our meals and gear needed for our next few days at the upper camps on the mountain.

We enjoyed a long and tasty lunch around 1 PM, probably our last real lunch as tomorrow we start climbing up the mountain and lunch will be on the go during one of our rest stops.

In the late afternoon, we paid a mandatory visit to the Base Camp doctor to get checked out physically. We appear to be doing real well and acclimatizing to the altitude. We got full clearance to continue with our climb.

We wrapped up the day with another good dinner of steak fillet and mashed squash, soup accompanied by some more Malbec wine. After dinner, none of us could finish the amazing dessert of torta chocolata.

Tomorrow we will carry our first load to Camp 1 and return to Base Camp for the night. The wind is getting stronger and the temperature has dropped significantly throughout the day.
